Present: Karen Foster, Anja & Andrew Fleming, Sally Joynes, Tracey Colquhoun, Judy Senior, Sylvia Garrett and Dot Harries popped in at the end.
Apologies: Nikki Maycock, Sam Taylor, Maisie Gawler-Wright.
Sam’s husband John collected a cheque for £800.00 from Swanage Carnival Committee at a presentation evening on Friday 25th September. This is going to be used for the children and Sam put forward one idea, via Tracey, of taking the children to a pantomime at Christmas/ New Year. General opinion was the pantos in Poole and Bournemouth used inappropriate ‘jokes’ and our local panto at the Mowlem was always very good.
The Christmas Party will be on Sunday 6th December 2009 and entertainment along the lines of previous years would be good. i.e. magician and disco. The party would be in the afternoon but times to be arranged. Parents to bring party food as before.
Judy has had no luck in contacting Mick Hogan (Children’s Services, County Hall) regarding use of the Youth Centre for our Youth Club. His number is 01305 254012 if anyone would like to try reaching him. Tracey suggested we may have use of the Children’s Centre when building is completed by January 2010. There would also be the possibility of using the building for our meetings. We were hoping to discuss this with a lady from Children’s Services but she didn’t show up! Sylvia mentioned the church’s new children’s worker, Tom, would be available to help once something is set up. Anja, Andrew and Nikki have also offered via email. (Tom can be contacted on 01929 421767).
Sally mentioned there is a new club at the library called ‘S.L.U.G.’ (Swanage Library Unique Group). It is for children in school years 7 & 8, downstairs in the library on Thursday evenings between 5 & 7 pm. They offer all sorts of activities and Sally’s girls really enjoy it.
It was suggested we should have a meeting one month and then the next month have a trip or activity arranged for the children. Sally suggested a trip to Warmwell and Tracey will look into this. Judy will speak to the Middle School about use of their minibus. Tracey suggested bowling. Andrew mentioned Phil Robinson who could do something a bit different in the hall, but we would have to pay for this.
Further to the success of the drumming workshop and Sports Day, there is a Pirate Treasure Arts & Crafts session on Monday 26th October 2009 (half term). This is for 5 - 16 year olds and will be at the Youth Centre 2 - 4pm. Contact Judy if you don’t have a form to book a place.
Sam has suggested a meal out for the adults. Judy will come up with a few ideas (suggestions welcome) and email everyone.
Next meeting Tuesday 20th October 2009 at the Methodist Church Hall, 7.30pm.
Meeting closed 8.40pm.
