Meeting 7th November 2011

Minutes of Meeting 7th November 2011, 6.30 pm
at Children’s Centre, Swanage

Present: Sally Joynes, Karen Foster, Becky Burgess, Tasha Dodd, Mike Hadley,
Judy Senior, Ben Delahay, Sam Taylor, Collete Ford, Tracey Burch,
Dot Harries.

Apologies: Tracey Colquhoun.

Mike Hadley chaired the meeting.

Allsorts has not been up and running for some time now due to the chair’s many and unavoidable commitments and a replacement not being forthcoming. It was agreed that there is a need for the group and it should primarily provide support for parents and an exchange network of information. The group will be targeted at parents with children aged 0 - 19 years.

Sam Taylor explained the origins and objectives of the group to those new to Allsorts and leaflets were handed out. Allsorts have various resources and it was agreed these would be donated to ‘Treats’ due to lack of storage space at the Children’s Centre. This would benefit the group in that all ‘Treats’ resources would be available for loan. Sam also mentioned there is a significant sum of money in the Allsorts account. Sam will check the resources are still in the Methodist Church Hall and liaise with Collete. Action: ST

It was agreed that all members of the group should provide to Collete or Judy any information they come across on forthcoming events, news, advice etc. so that it may be circulated to the whole group either at meetings and/or via the website or email. Action: All

Collete Ford offered to temporarily manage the group at the children’s centre until a new leader can be found. Meetings will be on the first Monday of the month at 6.30 - 8.30 pm to coincide with ‘SINC’, the Special Inclusive Needs Club run at the Youth Centre (ages 11 - 25). Parents need not feel obliged however to stay for the full 2 hours! Sam will continue to manage the funds and Mike the website for now.

It was agreed another advert in the Gazette (December issue) would be beneficial and new posters/flyers. Action: MH
Flyers to be circulated by SEN co-ordinators at main and special schools via book bags. Action: CF
We would also aim to get Allsorts’ meetings listed in Parish magazines and the Purbeck Local as well as in ‘What’s On’ in the Gazette. Action: MH
It was agreed to get information on Swanage Forum and set up an Allsorts Facebook page. Action: KF

Next meeting Monday 5th December 2011, 6.30 pm at the Children’s Centre where Ben Delahay’s IT resources ideas will be discussed.

Future meeting dates for your diary - Mondays 9th January 2012, 6th February and 5th March.

Next meetings

Following a very positive meeting on 7th Novemeber, it was agreed that there is definitely a need to keep the Allsorts group going.

You’ll be welcome, whatever your child’s disability, whether recently diagnosed or with a School Action, School Action Plus, or Statement in place. Or you may need help with getting recognition and support.

Please join us for meetings to discuss your concerns, to share experiences, to get help, to offer help or just to spend some time with others with similar problems and needs.

Meetings will usually be held at 6.30 pm at the Swanage Childrens’ Centre in Chapel Lane, on the first Monday of the month.

It would help if you could let us know in advance if you plan to come to any meeting: email (mail@allsortsspecialneeds.co.uk) or telephone (07816 419680).
